Learn how to use FL Studio 21 from zero and basic concepts of music production. In this course FL Studio 21 is explained from the most basic foundations. It is a course suitable both for those approaching the software for the first time and for those who, despite using it for many years, have never managed to use it completely and do not know the many hidden and interesting functions that the sequencer produced by Image -Line, a Belgian company, supplies. The course also deals with the issue of Music Production, in fact once the functions of the software are understood, several lessons deal with some of the most popular musical genres of the moment: techno, tech-house, house, slap house, edm, hip-hop , trap. That is, in the projects that can then be downloaded for free it is possible to learn tips and tricks that can be applied from one genre to another. For example, in the house project, although there are classic elements such as organ bass and electric piano, it is enough to change some instruments and the beat borders on tech-house; same thing with the edm project, which has a slap-house connotation, with contaminations ranging from future house to progressive house. As for the techno project, it approaches the styles of artists such as Charlotte De Witte, Amelie Lens, Boris Brejcha, Debora De Luca, etc. and Drumcode-style sounds and the like.

This course uses Ableton Live and ANA 2, but all the techniques shown can be transferred to any synth of your choice. Check it out, and learn how to create your own unique bass patches to be the foundation of your tracks!

After Chris gives us the lowdown on what this genre is about and where it stemmed from, Owsey picks apart a track he’s created for this course, giving us an insight into the creation and processing involved in achieving a lo-fi feel. From sampling, drums, sound degradation, live instruments, synths, vocals and FX, this is a masterclass in creating your very own relaxing, old skool sound. Go check it out!
This week we welcome back King Unique for an in-depth look at using Ableton Live for one of the reasons it was designed for hence the name, and that’s using it in a ‘live’ situation. Thanks to social media, performing live is becoming an increasingly popular way to engage with fans even if you’re not on the road. Matt goes through everything you need to know when linking Ableton to your hardware so you can use it as an instrument rather than just a production tool. Here we look at navigating the Session View and how we can make the DAW do a lot of the the heavy lifting to add variation and interest to our clips and loops. Not just useful for playing live, using this method can also be a brilliant way to arrange your tracks when creating tunes.
