In this EZX, drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth) and engineer Chris Rakestraw (Megadeth, Deftones, Parkway Drive) have teamed up to bring you the epitome of a metal expansion for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3. It features three unique kits, a wealth of snare drums and kicks as well as over 30 cymbals – all flawlessly captured in one of the world’s most famed studios for hard rock and metal: Studio A at One On One in Los Angeles. Massive-sounding, warm and vibrant but at the same time just as tight and aggressive, this room has all the qualities to move air in a way that makes it seem custom-built particularly for hard-hitting metal drums. This goes to show on the plethora of defining records that were recorded here, some of which include the likes of Megadeth’s “Rust in Peace,” Metallica’s “…And Justice for All” and “Black Album,” Dream Theater’s “Awake” and Testament’s “The Ritual.” Each of the three drum kits included represents its own niched sound. One covers Dirk’s current touring setup, one is from his tenure in the band Soilwork and one was handpicked to offer a completely contrasting tone and vibe. All in all, you’ll have a balanced but eclectic palette of kits encompassing anything from the loud, aggressive and punchy to the big, low and warm.

Capturing the raw essence of how drums sound when recorded using a minimal vintage-meets-modern setup in a cramped basement studio, this expansion for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 presents arguably the most unpolished, gritty and tangible kits you’ll ever hear. Inspired by punk, hardcore, metal, indie, psychedelic rock, kraut and all peripheral offshoots of the underground scenes of the early ’90s until today, this is an eclectic collection of drums that sounds as far from the beaten path you possibly can imagine. If you’re looking for an EZX that is loud, decadent, angry and all-around fuming of unpretentious, nonchalant in-your-face energy, this one’s for you. The Underground EZX was recorded by Refused drummer David Sandström and engineer/producer/mixer Martin “Konie” Ehrencrona at the famed Studio Cobra – a small, low-ceiling basement studio in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden. From this dungeon-like place – brimming with tape machines, old tube gear and vintage instruments – Konie has been churning out productions bursting with his signature stripe of analog character for the likes of Refused and Tribulation, to name a few. With a collection of David’s own drums, the studio’s and those of bands and friends on the Stockholm scene, they made sure this EZX had four distinctly unique kits, each bringing its niched sound and vibe to the project. Expect a broad palette of scarred, road worn and tried-and-true kits all put through the paces on anything from big festival stages and underground club stages to a wealth of albums of all styles.

Modern Retro v1.0.1 EZX

This EZX for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 features a collection of unique kits from the mid-1900s era, each handpicked to create the best mix of earthy, organic, resonant and vivid sounds for anything from acoustic pop to edgy soul, R&B and any tight-sounding pocket-style beats. It was recorded by engineer/producer/mixer Christoffer Berg (Depeche Mode, The Knife, Fever Ray) and drummer Christopher Cantillo (Carly Rae Jepsen, Mayer Hawthorne, Dina Ögon) at the famed Svenska Grammofonstudion (SGS) in Gothenburg, Sweden. With its main live room boasting an impressive 10-meter ceiling height but still with a very contained ambience, it was the perfect choice for an EZX that set out to capture drums tight enough for any contemporary beats but still projecting enough air in the room to retain that natural timeless vintage timbre of the drums. The kits were recorded using the obligatory close mics as well as two different mid/side configurations – one featuring all-ribbon mics and one where only tube mics were used. To enhance the vintage flair and period-correct vibes of the kits themselves even more, prominently calf- and cowskin heads were used, giving you that uniquely thick, lush, warm, yet-ringy, old-school sound unlike that of any modern-day alternatives.

Fusion EZX SOUNDBANK

This EZX for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 aims to unravel some of the defining mile markers in the genre’s history and provide you with the ultimate collection of tailored drums. If you’re looking for big, resonant kits that can handle the entire dynamic range from the subtle to the explosive and offer tones covering the bright, crisp, earthy and warm, this EZX is for you. The Fusion EZX was recorded by engineer Stefano Civetta (Nile Rodgers, Ed Sheeran, Earth, Wind and Fire) and drummer Pete Riley (Guthrie Govan, Keith Emerson, Richie Kotzen) at School Farm, a brand new state-of-the-art studio in Essex, England. With its SSL Duality console, stellar mic locker, 24 channels of Neve preamps and, most importantly, spacious but not overpoweringly reverberant live room, it was the perfect choice for capturing the vibrant energy of the drums in this EZX. In total, four unique kits are included, each handpicked, tuned and curated to offer its own niched tone and flair to the project. To add, one of the kits was recorded with two different drum head setups, essentially giving you a total of five completely different flavors of tone. Further, with the kits boasting seven toms each, extras such as side snares, octobans, cowbells, a gong bass drum, several extra kit pieces and a breadth of cymbals ranging from 6-inch splashes to 23-inch rides, stacks and chinas, this is an EZX that covers an enormous width.

In total, it includes four unique kits, one extra recorded kit configuration as well as several additional snares – all handpicked to ensure a width of tones that ranges from the rich, dark and boomy to the ringy, tight and snappy. To add, the kits were captured at a private high-end studio in the Los Angeles area boasting a massive-sounding but still not overpowering room, making it the perfect choice for loud rock drums that sound thunderously big but not drowned out by excessive ambience.
